The scene below is interlaced with the previous Repulse Bay establishing shots (the wide angle pictures at the beginning of that post) giving the impression that the chaps are staying there. However, we are actually looking at a scene filmed instead on a terrace at the Castle Peak Hotel. The background in the following shot is the (seemingly nameless) body of water between Lantau Island and the New Territories mainland near to Tuen Mun. The headland in the background with the white building is current location of the Siu Lam Marine Police HQ (the HK Observatory also has a station there now) and the pointy ridge behind that culminates in a place called "Brothers Point" (Tai Lam Kok).
The distant hills are actually hills on the eastern part of Lantau Island - Fa Peng Teng and Tai Yam Teng. The reason for filming here is anybody's guess. The fact that there are later scenes filmed on the driveway of the Repulse Bay Hotel seems to indicate it wasn't down to permission or budget, so maybe the Repulse Bay location just didn't quite fit the script requirements? Answers on a postcard.. Anyway, if anyone remembers this terrace at the Castle Peak Hotel, please feel free to get in touch. Get this from a library! Ein Sarg aus Hongkong : Kriminalroman. [James Hadley Chase]. Ein Sarg aus Hongkong (1. Released in the U. S. as "A Coffin From Hong Kong", this was one of a whole series of relatively low budget German noir/espionage/thriller type films made in the early to mid sixties. Although the scripting of these films is often trite to the point silliness, they are generally well acted, and usually set (though not filmed) someplace other than Germany, usually London or the U. S. Rather frequently shown on late night TV in the 6. It even appears that some of the filming may actually have been done in Hong Kong. If not, the set designers did a great job. A private detective finds the limp body of Greta Chi(a Chinese/Danish actress of the 6. Shortly afterward, an attempt is made on his own life, which causes him to travel to Hong Kong in order to duck the police and unravel a complicated mystery involving drug smuggling and secret societies. This film is a hard one to judge. As usual, the scripting is lousy and the villains have a comic book dimension. Yet some of the more violent scenes have a clinical coldness that is rather shocking and effective. There are also some nice "historical" oddities such as push button rotary phones and a few interesting cars. Definitely worth it for fans of the genre but rather boring for others.
